Prime’s Cold-Formed Steel Buildings deliver unmatched strength and durability, with the flexibility and design options you need — all faster and more cost-effective than traditional construction. Whether upgrading an existing structure or building from the ground up, our cold-formed buildings, purlins, and components set the standard for quality, speed, and design versatility — all at a competitive price.

With Prime, your customers get a long-lasting building with countless design options included as standard, making it easy to create the perfect structure for any project.

What is a COLD
FORMED Steel
Building?

COLD FORMED Steel Buildings are Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings constructed with roll-formed galvanized steel CEE and ZEE sections. These sections are bolted or screwed together to form the building’s structure, including, but not limited to, portal frames, columns, and rafters.

Cees bolted back-to-back become I-beams, and all members are connected with bolts or screws. No welding is required.

A New Era in Steel Construction

Cold-formed steel offers numerous advantages, making it a more beneficial choice for modern construction projects.  With our efficient order-to-delivery process and stylish, cost-effective solutions, we’re at the forefront of innovation. Our structures combine strength with modern design, ensuring faster build times and cost savings.

ARCHITECTURAL SPECIFICATIONS

Standard Specs:

  1. 50-year Structural framing for added lifetime
  2. Galvanized framing material for rust-proofing
  3. 40-year Structural PBR Roofing & Siding material
  4. Base Trim: Already included “rat-guard” material to keep rodents out
  5. Rafters/Trusses: Engineered trusses to meet your permitting requirements

Height to Roof Peak:

With a 3:12 Pitch
1′ rise in peak height every 4′ of width of trusses

Example: 40′ Wide building with 16′ Eaves

 1. Half of the 40′ Width is 20′ of Run
2. With a 1′ rise in height every 4′
3. 20′ / 4′ = 5′ of Rise at the peak
4. At 16′ Eaves, the peak is at 21′

Prime’s Cold-Formed Steel Buildings

Prime’s Cold Formed Buildings are changing the entire landscape of America as we know it. A cleaner order-to-delivery process, combined with a more cost-effective (and better-looking) product, has just arrived.

As you go through the process of learning about Steel Buildings, you will (hopefully) eventually find out that there are multiple building system styles you can get. Usually, you’ll find the bulky outdated red-iron building system, the cheap temporary tube frame structures, and last but not least, the modern cold-formed building system.

Every Prime Cold-Formed Building is engineered for durability and built to meet structural requirements from the ground up. Our buildings aren’t just strong — they’re ready for the real world, with load calculations and stamped drawings that simplify the permitting process in nearly every U.S. state.

We work closely with your team to ensure that every design meets local codes and performance standards, so you’re not left chasing paperwork or reworking plans down the line. From wind and snow loads to seismic requirements, Prime Steel buildings are prepared to stand up to whatever conditions you face.

Why Consider Cold-Formed Steel Buildings?

Traditional pre-engineered metal buildings often use red iron frames and sub-structural members that require extensive welding, leading to longer lead times and higher costs. Cold-formed metal buildings feature roll-formed members pre-fabricated in a factory, eliminating the need for welding. This allows for quicker delivery, reduced costs, and improved efficiency.

Cold-Formed vs. Traditional Red Iron vs. Tube-Frame

When choosing a building system, it is essential to understand the benefits of cold-formed steel compared to red iron or Tube frame. The table below outlines the key features that make cold-formed steel the preferred option for modern construction.

Feature Cold-Formed Steel Red Iron Tube-Frame
Weight Lightweight Heavier Very lightweight
Construction Speed Faster assembly Slower assembly Quick assembly
Cost-Effectiveness More affordable Higher costs Low initial cost
Design Flexibility Highly versatile Limited shapes Limited design options
Durability Superior corrosion resistance Prone to rust Less durable
Aesthetic Appeal Modern design Bulky appearance Simple appearance
Fire Resistance Excellent Requires treatments Poor
Sustainability Often made from recycled steel Also recyclable Not typically recyclable
